Roy and Kirsten drove down to the geography building (where we had the welcome lecture yesterday). It's a journey of perhaps 250 yards, so initially I laughed, but there is method to their madness. Apparently the reason for driving down is that they intend to drive into town for lunch.
Had a very long lecture on the importance of keeping proper notes in lab books, how to deal with uncertainties and errors, and the like. Good, but not first thing in the morning. Terribly worthy, not terribly interesting. The tutor actually said, with a straight face, "A day without graphs is like a day without sunshine," which frankly made me feel like turning violent.
It was difficult to top how he started the lecture though, when he said, "My name is Tom and I am a quantum physicist." It was all bound to go downhill after that, and I did find myself feeling pretty jealous!
I am currently standing outside the geography building on a coffee break, with rampant stomach ache for the first time in years. Soon will be heading to the physics lab for the electrical oscillations lab, which should be good.
