Lecture, Pint, Bed

9.36pm. Went to David Keen's lecture on relativity. I felt extremely tired this evening, and combined with the heat of the room, I was struggling to stay awake. I was rather embarrassed. I know the lady in front of me said, before the lecture started, that she was tired and jokingly that she hoped nobody would mind if she had a doze. Well I was the one in danger of falling asleep!

Dunc next to me agreed that it was far too warm in that strange room, and when the lecture had finished, I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Martin, with pint.

Went to the Grey bar and bought a pint, plus one for Dunc (he bought me one last night). That went down very nicely, and he and I, along with Martin (the German guy) and another guy (whose name I really ought to know by now) had a good long chat about the OU, fees, the decline of postgraduate degree availability etc. Dunc bought me a pint back practically before I could blink, so my little plan to have one pint to unwind then head for bed was foiled.

In fact I didn't even finish the pint, but left with a couple of inches still to go. I rang Alan, we had a good chat, and I wished very much that he could be here with me.

Got to my room, and now that the showers have been fixed, I went and had a nice warm shower, which was good - although it's not much fun squelching in damp feet in a pair of flip-flops back to your own room. Non-ensuite accommodation really is dreadfully prehistoric.

I'm sitting here watching the tail end of the first episode of Battlestar Galactica, to try and give my brain a reward for all the hard work it has done today, then I will be climbing into this bed (instead of lying on it) and hopefully getting some shuteye.
