Afternoon off

4.44pm. Having an afternoon off was a welcome respite. Although I'm enjoying the residential, the pace is pretty relentless, and there's only so much physics that one's brain can take in at once.

After lunch with Dunc and Neil, I excused myself, came back to the room, and chilled for a while. I uploaded some photos and audio recordings, browsed the internet, then decided to head into town for a nose around.

I had a brief look around Palace Green and ventured into the cathedral. Somewhat irritated by the signs which said no photography. Evidently they are trying to get you to buy the guidebook. Dream on.

I took a load of photographs anyway in the cloisters; it seems to be a tradition in Durham. I ran into a few fellow Grey students on the way, which was nice. I popped into Waterstones, bought the odd bit and piece, then called at Tesco for some supplies, bought a card from Clintons, then walked back up the damn hill to Grey.
